Our Bangkok law firm chains certified translation, Notarial Services Attorney certification, and MFA Departmen
MFA legalization for international use
Our Bangkok law firm chains certified translation, Notarial Services Attorney certification, and MFA Department of Consular Affairs legalization into one fixed-fee engagement — followed by destination embassy authentication when required.
Thailand is not yet a party to the Hague Apostille Convention. To use a Thai document abroad you almost always need a two-step legalization chain: (1) MFA Department of Consular Affairs in Chaeng Wattana, then (2) the destination country's embassy in Bangkok.
Our six in-house Notarial Services Attorneys (licensed by the Lawyers Council of Thailand) certify the translation; our runner team queues at MFA every working day; we then walk the file to the destination embassy and ship the original worldwide.

Step 1 — email/LINE scans for free review. Step 2 — our team produces the certified translation, signed and sealed by a Notarial Services Attorney. Step 3 — runners submit the bundle to MFA in Chaeng Wattana. Step 4 — when MFA returns the stamped file, we walk it to the destination embassy in Bangkok. Step 5 — DHL/EMS worldwide.
Standard turnaround: 3–5 working days for MFA alone; 5–10 working days end-to-end with embassy authentication.
Inclusive of attorney fee, certified translation, MFA government fee, and Bangkok pickup/delivery.
MFA only authenticates signatures of Thai public officials and registered Notarial Services Attorneys. Self-submitted translations done by a freelance translator are routinely rejected. A law firm with in-house Notarial Attorneys eliminates that risk and keeps a 10-year audit trail in case the destination authority asks for re-issuance.
Why route MFA through a law firm
MFA only authenticates signatures of Thai public officials and registered Notarial Services Attorneys. Self-submitted translations done by a freelance translator are routinely rejected. A law firm with in-house Notarial Attorneys eliminates that risk and keeps a 10-year audit trail in case the destination authority asks for re-issuance.
Is Thailand part of the Hague Apostille Convention?
Not yet (as of 2026). Thai documents require two-step legalization: MFA Bangkok + destination embassy in Bangkok. We monitor accession progress and will update this page when policy changes.
Do I need to translate the document first?
Yes if the destination authority works in English or another language. The translation must be certified by a Notarial Services Attorney before MFA will legalize it.
Do I have to visit the MFA office myself?
No. We accept a Power of Attorney and our team submits and collects on your behalf.
How long does it take?
Standard MFA processing: 3–5 working days. Express: 1–2 working days. Add 2–5 days for embassy authentication depending on country.
Does MFA accept photocopies?
Only if the photocopy is first certified as a True Copy by a Notarial Services Attorney. Otherwise originals are required.
What is the MFA government fee?
Official rates: 400 THB/document standard; 800 THB/document express. Quoted separately from our service fee.
Can MFA legalize foreign documents?
Indirectly. Foreign documents must first be authenticated by their home country's authority and the Royal Thai Embassy in that country, then re-stamped by MFA Bangkok before use in Thailand.
Can MFA legalize corporate documents for opening overseas subsidiaries?
Yes — DBD affidavits, shareholder lists, audited statements, board resolutions are all accepted and widely used for setting up overseas branches and international contracts.

Short answer: Thai government-issued records can go straight to the Legalization Division, while private documents first need a notarial signature certificate. The correct order is original, lawful form, translation, consular authentication, then embassy authentication.
Thai official records
Private and corporate documents
Applicants filing from abroad
1. Classify the document and map the layers
Decide whether the document is official or private, because private documents always require the notarial layer first.
⏱ Same day
2. Prepare a translation that matches the original
Names, dates and reference numbers must match the original and the passport; attach evidence where they differ.
⏱ 1-3 working days (estimate)
3. File with the Legalization Division
Submit the original with its translation through the channel the Department of Consular Affairs currently offers and collect the fully stamped set.
⏱ 2-5 working days (estimate)
4. File with the destination embassy
Follow the mission's own procedure; several require prior appointments and prescribe the translation language.
⏱ 3-10 working days (estimate)
5. Verify and deliver with the seal intact
Check every stamp layer, scan a record copy, then ship with tracking without breaking the cross-seal.
⏱ 1-2 working days (estimate)
| Criterion | Today (chain legalization) | From 28 February 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Number of layers | Thai consular plus destination embassy | A single Apostille for member states |
| Country coverage | All countries, under each mission's rules | Convention members only; non-members keep the chain |
| Planning impact | Extra buffer needed for embassy queues | Fewer steps, but originals and translations must still be correct |

Document and legalization advisers with 15+ years of practice
Before we start, we read your actual documents and confirm the legalization route matches what the receiving authority asks for. During the work we report progress, and after delivery we still answer questions about how to submit the file.
We prepare documents to the requirements of the receiving authority. Any approval decision remains at that authority's discretion.
Send your documents on LINE for a preliminary review, a recommended legalization route and a written quote.
General guidance, not a case-specific determination. Requirements change with agency notices — confirm with the receiving authority before you act.

Compiled from real client files — Department of Consular Affairs (Chaeng Watthana) legalisation, Apostille, destination-embassy chains, certified translation, civil-registry and corporate documents.
Often not. Employers reviewing a CV, landlords checking identity, or schools taking an enrolment copy usually accept a certified translation. Legalisation becomes necessary when a state body, court, registry, bank or immigration authority must rely on the document formally. Ask the recipient whether they require legalisation before paying for a chain you may not need.

Short answer: Rejections cluster around uncertified copies, translated names that differ from the passport, source documents older than the destination allows, and steps taken out of order. The fix is to re-issue the source document and rebuild the chain in the correct sequence.
We check how many certification layers your document needs, in which order, and whether it will still be valid on filing day — send it to us for a pre-check or let our team run the full chain.
