Frequently asked questions
Is a Thai Notarial Services Attorney recognized abroad?
Yes. Combined with MFA legalization and embassy authentication, the document is recognized in every Hague Apostille and non-Apostille jurisdiction.
Do I need to be physically present?
For signature notarization yes — the attorney must witness the signing. True-copy certifications can be done from originals you mail in.
Can you notarize in English even though the document is in Thai?
Yes. We notarize the Thai original and attach an attorney-supervised English translation in the same engagement.
What ID is acceptable?
Valid Thai ID card or passport (foreigners). Documents must match the ID name exactly.
Mobile notary?
Yes — home, hotel, hospital, or office visits anywhere in Bangkok metro. Travel surcharge applies.
Apostille?
Thailand joined the Hague Apostille Convention in 2025. We can now issue Apostille (replacing the old MFA-then-embassy chain) for use in Apostille-member countries.

Working playbook: signature and true-copy certification by a Notarial Services Attorney
Short answer: In Thailand the certifying officer is a lawyer registered as a Notarial Services Attorney with the Lawyers Council. The signer must sign in front of that lawyer with original identity documents. The certificate is then authenticated at the Department of Consular Affairs and at the receiving country's embassy where required.

Foreign nationals
- • Original passport with the latest entry stamp
- • A translation into a language the receiver accepts when the source is Thai
- • A verifiable Thai address when the document must state residence
Process steps
1. Confirm the receiver's requirements before printing
Establish which act is needed (signature witnessing, affirmation or certified copy), whether fixed wording applies, and how many authentication layers the receiver expects.

- • Breaking the staple or cross-seal of a certified set voids it and restarts the chain.

Notarial Services Attorney certification in Thailand
Practical guidance before you start
- Confirm with the receiving authority whether they need signature witnessing or a certified true copy — the two carry different attestation wording and are not interchangeable.
- Bring the original even when you only need a copy certified; the attorney must sight the original before certifying the copy.
- Sign in front of the attorney. Pre-signed documents usually have to be re-executed.
- Match every letter of your name to the passport bio page, including middle names and hyphens.
- Say up front if the document continues to the Department of Consular Affairs or an embassy — the wording and the number of sets differ.
- Keep at least one stamped set for your own records in case the destination asks for another copy.
Common reasons documents get rejected
- Assuming a Thai notarisation equals a common-law Notary Public. In Thailand it is a lawyer registered with the Lawyers Council as a Notarial Services Attorney, and some destinations add requirements.
- Believing one stamp works everywhere — most destinations still require consular legalization and an embassy stamp afterwards.
- Submitting civil-registry copies issued long ago when the destination only accepts a freshly issued certified extract.
- Translating first without checking which translator category the destination accepts, forcing a full re-translation.
- Copying only the front of each page and losing back-page stamps or renewal endorsements.
- Document dates that contradict the certification date, which invites questions at the counter.
